Sex Drive at first glance is just another one of those, Eurotrip, Road Trip, Dude Where’s My Car, Harold and Kumar stoner movies. But when you take a deeper look into it, it’s worse. Sex Drive features no name actors featuring Ian(Josh Zuckerman), Felicia (Amanda Crew), Lance (Clark Duke), and Rex (Cyclops from XMen), with brief appearances by that short ginger baby from Buffy and that 70′s show who plays an Amish Mechanic, ya go figure that out. Anyways the story just like all the other ones, guy meets girl online, guy wants to have sex with girl, and guy goes along way during which they encounter various set backs. The twist with this one however, he finds out he is in love with his best friend, but decides to have sex with the girl anyways, whom then carjacks him, did I mention he stole his brother’s car to visit her, but in the end he gets to have sex with his best friend and gets the car back, the end. I am giving this movie a 2 out of 10 and listing it as a Forget It on the must see scale.

Resident Evil: Degeneration, I am going to have to go back and do an entire Resident Evil day, because this franchise just gets better and better with every film, this is no exception. Degeneration features an entirely new type of film, which I strongly believe will make a big impact in the future. The film is entirely computer generated, which I should mention was pulled off incredibly. The problem with CGI movies, is there are no subtletlies or emotions that you get from human actors. But this studio had it down to the wrinkles in the forhead and even the gestures with the eyebrows. It isn’t a surprise they took it this direction, since most video games nowdays use this technology in their cut scenes which in most games run about 30-50 minutes already. Back to the story, Degeneration focuses on Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Federic Downing and brother/sister Angela and Curtis Miller. A Bio-terror attack breaks out at the airport with the T-virus infecting almost everybody, after a quick lock down, Claire is able to escape with the assistance of Leon, who later learns that WilFarm has created an anti-virus to reverse the effects of the T-virus. She accompanies Kennedy back to WilFarm to see their operation, and learns of the G-virus’s existance there. I am not up to date on the Resident Evil world, but since she was pissed, I would say the G-virus is really bad. Anyways Curtis who is with a radical group trying to destroy the viruses after what happened in Racoon City and now Harvardville, detonates a bomb inside WilFarm, only he also ends up infecting himself with the G-virus. A huge battle ensues that would be nearly impossible for real actors to use, and with the viruses and building destroyed they all live happily ever after. Only Kennedy stole them and left the building to sell them to the highest bidder. This is a great addition to the franchise and is getting an 8 out of 10 with a Rent It/Borrow It rating for the average viewer, and a Buy It for the Resident Evil and video game fans.

Orphan is very misleading film, previews and promotions make it out to be a horror type film, infact it’s a slasher film. Esther, played by Isabelle Fuhrman is a Russian orphan who has been passed around from orphanage to orphanage following the tradegic death of her family in a house fire, which she was the only survivor. Jon and Kate, not those ones, played by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard, are not your typical parents looking to adopt. They are already parents to a son, Daniel(Jimmy Bennett), and a deaf daughter, Max(Aryana Engineer) aswell as a still-born daughter Jessica. After losing their third child, Kate suffers from alcoholism and because of this nearly lose their other daughter. While it is not said why they chose to adopt, it is implied that it was to replace the loss of their still-born. While visiting the orphanage, which I should point out is not the one in the promotions that looks like a run down mansion, it is infact a beautiful old victorian, they discover Esther painting by herself. Esther showing great talent with a knack for the arts, painting, singing, pianist, bonds instantly with Jon and Kate. Upon bringing her home, Esther quickly bonds with Max, but is outcast by Daniel. After a few unfortunate events, that Kate thinks Esther is behind, she starts looking into her past. What happens next is beyond me, Esther attempts to murder Daniel, who found that she has been conspiring behind everyone’s back, with the help from Max. While Daniel lays in the hospital, Esther goes home with Jon and Max, and then sets up a romantic scenario for Jon and herself. We are talking rose on the bed, bottle of wine, candles, and she puts on makeup a sexy black dress. Now let’s get it straight, I say sexy as in the type of dress, not the 9 year old looking sexy. After Jon puts the pieces together and figures out it was Esther all along, she kills him. Kate meanwhile at the hospital with Daniel, recieves a call from an insane asylum in Estonia claiming Esther was a former patient, who is infact a 37 year old women trapped in a 9 year old girl’s body due to some rare disease. Kate rushes home and finds Jon dead, then a fight ensues and she and Esther fall through some ice and into the same pond which nearly killed Max years prior, ironic no? While this movie was not that bad, it was a real let down, seeing as it was hyped up as a horror type scare movie, but turns out to be nothing the same. The high point has to be the incredible performance by Aryana Engineer as Max. I would rate this film with a 4 out of 10 and list it as a Forget It on the see it scale.
